Dive Into Summer With Tre’Shonda Sheffey

ReKon Intern

June 21, 2019

As a child Tre’Shonda was very inquisitive, had a desire to travel, learn about other cultures, enjoyed helping others and always believed that she would do something to change the world. She was born in Austin, Texas, but grew up in Okinawa, Japan because of her father’s military service (USAF). Living overseas shaped Tre’Shonda’s worldview around her passion for music, tv/film and policy.

Growing up in a military family allowed Tre’Shonda to experience the world — multiple cultures, languages, food, and some of the most exceptional stories of humankind. When she views the stories written and produced for television and film, she cannot help but think how she could contribute to the narrative because of the exposure from living overseas in places like Japan, Korea, and Spain.

Tre’Shonda’s background is in Marketing/PR where she spent a few years advocating in politics creating digital campaigns by sharing stories of those impacted by state and federal policies in their local communities. After a few years she decided to leave politics so that she could advocate, be bold and creative in an area where she was also passionate — television and film. She is very excited for the opportunity to intern at ReKon Productions where she hopes to gain a strong foundation for the ins/outs of production and how to successfully pitch and produce a variety of projects.

By working in the entertainment industry, Tre’Shonda’s goal is to bridge the lack of representation in originality and authenticity of stories about people from other cultures, as well as bring an open-mind and worldview perspective when contributing to the storytelling and production process. Additionally, she will be an advocate for women and people of color who often are not represented due to lack of consideration from executives within the industry because of an inability to identify or unwillingness to set aside social norms.
