On Sunday May 30th, I was welcomed on the set of Dating Daisy’s reshoot. Written and directed by Neel Upadhye and produced by Jon Judelson, Dating Daisy is a comical tale of a recently broken-up couple road tripping to Thanksgiving dinner. The reshoots included two scenes, the longest one being of the couple arguing in the car.
As a production intern, it has always been clear to me that there are very few things you should say “no” to and that you should be prepared for all types of odd jobs. That being said, I came to set fully prepared to happily make several coffee runs and to lug around as much equipment as necessary. Since this is not my first time interning, not many requests shock me. That all changed when the AD asked if I could “twerk” on the hood of the car to create the illusion that the car was actually moving.
Since I never was one to participate in the Miley Cyrus inspired trend, I was determined to find another way to make the car bounce. With the help of crafty and the crew, I constructed a wonderful contraption of a pole on top of an apple box. It wasn’t anything Martha Stewart would be proud of, but as they say, when life gives you lemons…
This new contraption was genius, creating “real-life car movement” without twerking. Brilliant as it was, it didn’t make up for the fact that I did shake a pole for around five hours. Lucky for me, I was able to use this as an excuse to skip the gym for the last few days. In my book, that’s a win/win.
