For ReKon’s third annual A Week Of Spring Break Playlists, we have decided to give our game of make-believe a bit of a twist. This year, our Producers are creating a daily soundtrack to the adventures of our Spring Break Protagonist, an unnamed yet lovable ReKoner.
INT. BEDROOM – BEFORE DAWN
A cell phone alarm is going off, every three minutes, from the inside pocket a barely packed carry on. Our REKONER has missed their ill-advised morning scheduled flight to a tropical island.
Cue Montage. Frantic Packing. Tripping out the Door. Jumping into an Uber. Getting to the Airport. Charming Airline Personnel. Checking Bags. Sitting in 1st Class. Flight takes off at sunset.
DAY 1: THE MISSED FLIGHT (Lesley) – [Listen Here]
EXT. BUS ON A DUSTY ROAD – MIDDAY
On a brightly painted, no-window bus that’s bumping along in traffic on a single lane dirt road. Our REKONER sits somewhere in the back row, against a window frame watching the street vendors and hustle and bustle of the island, listening to the sounds of the Caribbean.
DAY 2: ON A CARIBBEAN COACH (Sammy) – [Listen Here]
INT. BEACH SHACK BAR – TWILIGHT
A hidden oasis on a long stretch of beach, where only the locals and the lost stumble in. A bright colored piece of construction paper taped to the wall recommends trying the Tiki Bowl, a drink that comes with its own fire. Our REKONER sits in the corner, sipping on the world’s best pina colada with a bright blue paper umbrella in it.
DAY 3: IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PAPER UMBRELLAS (Jillian) – [Listen Here]
EXT. OUTDOOR MARKETPLACE – MID MORNING
Open air market stalls, packed with bright colored bags and hand made artisan souvenirs near precariously balanced bottles of sunscreens and disposable cameras. Locals and tourists alike stand haggling and chit chatting. Our ReKoner peruses a rack of bright and patterned $5 sunglasses.
DAY 4: THE BEST SUNGLASSES ARE 5 DOLLARS OR LESS (Kristina) – [Listen Here]
EXT. TREE HOUSE PORCH – EVENING
Unseen exotic birds chirp harmonizing with monkey chatter and evening bugs buzzing. Down below, near the end of a sturdy looking rope ladder, sits a running bright yellow cab – honking. Our REKONER swings out of a toffee colored hammock, one bare foot at a time. Slides back into a pair of flip flops, swings a packed bag onto their shoulder and gives the tree house one last look – before climbing down.
