Originally from Indiana, Garrett McKenna is a senior studying film at DePaul University. After graduating high school, Garrett attended the U.S. Air Force Academy. Two years later, he left to pursue a career in film and television. He transferred to DePaul in September of 2016 and has not looked back since. Garrett enjoys all sides of production, but has a soft spot for post. Ever since middle school when he began making videos with iMovie, Garrett has had a passion for the magic of editing and its ability to make or break a project.
Garrett has had the pleasure of working for a number of different companies in the past. He most recently interned at AbelCine’s Chicago branch and also worked as an editor for the Improv Olympic’s comedy network. Before moving to LA, Garrett was a video producer for DePaul’s Athletic Department. While there, he would regularly shoot and edit highlight reels for their soccer, volleyball, and basketball programs. Garrett is also a huge comedy fan. He grew up watching Saturday Night Live while also listening to Monty Python’s Contractual Obligation Album on repeat. Being the die-hard sketch comedy fan that he is, Garrett’s ultimate goal is to work as an editor or director for the SNL digital shorts.
Although he is leaving in March to go back to Chicago, Garrett is very excited to be spending the next two months with Rekon! He hopes to learn some awesome editing techniques and watch a production company operate from the inside.
