Guest Post: Jim Dandy Entertainment On The First #ReKonEvent

Lesley

October 20, 2014

Completing a film is an all-encompassing experience. Last spring, I was deep in post production for Young Love – passionately working with my composer on the score, and  perfecting edits for the final cut. When my producer Allison Scott mentioned the idea of a screening of the short, having a party was the last thing on my mind.

After learning that ReKon, who had been a great partner in producing the film, just opened a new studio as part of their company , I couldn’t help but think it was the perfect venue. I became excited to collaborate with them on the screening, but when the reality of my compressed schedule hit, I realized I didn’t have time to plan a party. That’s when Rekon producer Lesley Lopez informed me she would take care of everything. And did she ever.

The team at ReKon really rolled out the red carpet for this little film. They took care of every detail – from the invitations, to the catering, to the decor – even bringing in one of their photographers to capture the event. They also planned the scheduling for the evening – suggesting multiple showings of the film, each followed by a Q&A.

The Q&As were not something I would’ve originally thought of, but for me it became the highlight – such a great way to share the experience of making the film. It allowed for more in depth discussions about the choices we made, and opened up a conversation with the audience. Filmmakers create because they have a story to tell. Feeling the audience so actively engaged in my story was incredibly fulfilling, and is something I’ll always look back on fondly. I have ReKon to thank for that.

I feel so honored to have found a partner in ReKon Studio to plan, organize and run such a fantastic event for my short film. I am truly grateful and blessed to be their first #ReKonEvent.
