Catch A Wave With Stephanie

ReKon Intern

June 28, 2017

As a first generation Mexican-American, Stephanie has always sought for representation in TV and film. With that in mind, she began her college career at California State University, Northridge with plans of majoring in TV Production and Chicano Studies. She believed this was the best way to combine her love for behind-the-scenes action while learning how to properly integrate representations that veered away from stereotypes. But as luck would have it, two years later she found herself transferring to the University of Southern California to pursue a degree in Communication; she is currently on track to graduate in the fall of 2017. But despite the change of school and change of major, her love for production and passion for equal representation in the media remains strong as ever.

In the past, Stephanie has interned at a public access channel for the city of Long Beach, she’s helped manage a variety of social media accounts for the non-profit organization I Am That Girl, and she’s had the chance to work the press line at multiple red-carpet movie premieres for Disney. She’s currently working at USC’s electrical engineering department where she gets to edit videos from time to time.

Her love for storytelling through TV, film, video production and social media are all things she hopes to exercise during her time at ReKon this summer. She’s thrilled to be able to work in such a dynamic environment full of cool people and caffeine!
